This
year’s UGS All-Aged Cup Finals was organised
by the Surrey,
West Sussex and Hampshire Branch and returned to The Wiston
Estate,
West Sussex, a fine
shoot on the South Downs, by kind
invitation of Harry Goring
Esq. The Judges were Mike Jennings,
Keith Broomfield, Richard Beckerleg and Kieran Smith.
Heavy driving rain and poor visibility – what a challenge for
Mark
Ansell, the keeper.
However, quickly changing his plans he gave us
three drives that worked
well as the weather improved. Pheasant,
partridge and woodcock, shot
by a strong team of Guns, fell mainly
into woodland. After lunch six
dogs sat through the third drive
which was a real test of steadiness!
For the last retrieves the dogs were sent across a valley into a
steep
bank of woodland to find on the judges left. Unfortunately
one dog was
lost here with the remaining five in the awards which
were presented
by Pippa Goring.
