This year’s UGS All-Aged Cup Finals was organised by the Surrey,
West Sussex and Hampshire Branch and returned to The Wiston
Estate, West Sussex, a fine shoot on the South Downs, by kind
invitation of Harry Goring Esq. The Judges were Mike Jennings,
Keith Broomfield, Richard Beckerleg and Kieran Smith.

Heavy driving rain and poor visibility – what a challenge for Mark
Ansell, the
keeper. However, quickly changing his plans he gave us
three drives that worked well as the weather improved. Pheasant,
partridge and woodcock, shot by a strong team of Guns, fell mainly
into woodland. After lunch six dogs sat through the third drive
which was a real test of steadiness!

For the last retrieves the dogs were sent across a valley into a
steep bank of woodland to find on the judges left. Unfortunately
one dog was lost here with the remaining five in the awards which
were presented by Pippa Goring.

1st – Paul Jennings with Oakvalley Black Sabbath
Winner of the Lord Ludlow Perpetual Challenge Cup,
The Quintin Dick Challenge Cup awarded to the best Labrador,
The Wheler Garlton Cup awarded to the dog judged to have had
the best retrieve of a runner by using the nose
and the R. Sharpe Founder Member Cup awarded to the
best game finder of the opposite sex

2nd – Reuben Corbett with Oakvalley Black Jack
Winner of the Liphook Game Farm Kennels Cup
3rd – Beth Rayner with Hobhearn Comet
Winner of the Spratts Patent Ltd Challenge Cup,
the R. Sharpe Memorial Cup awarded to the best game finder
and the Gate Court Cup awarded to the best lady handler

CoM – Fiona Baird with Treunair Rhum
Winner of the Goldspan Golden Retriever Cup
awarded to the best Golden Retriever

CoM – Keith Bedford with FTCh Pyranduke Fenmarc Quest
