 Annual
Bursary to be awarded to Young Handlers The
Kent and East Sussex Branch of the Utility Gundog Society has
raised
funds to award an annual Bursary to young handlers, who
show the potential
to go further in the sport. The award will be
decided by the judges
at the ‘Fun Day’ and will take into account
handling
ability, empathy with dogs and general demeanour.
The Bursary will
consist of three half day training sessions with a
well known gundog
trainer and the opportunity to spend a day,
under instruction, with
their dog, on a shoot.
The trainer, Gilly Nickols, is based in East Sussex, with 350 acres
of
woodland, lakes and valleys on which she trains her dogs. She
has made
up two Field Trial Champions, Tasco Rouble of Bedgebrook
and Bedgebrook
Excalibur. She teaches and Judges both in the UK
and Europe, is a Kennel
Club ‘B’ Panel Judge and judges both Field
Trials and Working
Tests.
Gilly is passionate about training her dogs and helping other
people
to train theirs. She is keen to encourage young handlers and
believes
that a good grounding in dog training and the etiquette of
the shooting
and trialling worlds is essential to produce good all
round handlers.
She is a very friendly approachable trainer, always
wanting the dog and
the handler to succeed; she is aware of all the pitfalls and will break
down any problematic tasks to enable the
best result – www.bedgebrookgundogs.co.uk

Herts,
Beds & Bucks Branch hosted this year’s Inter Branch
Working Test Cup Final which were held on 14th June 2009, at
Toddington Manor, Bedfordshire, by kind permission of Sir Neville
and Lady Bowman-Shaw, with judges for the day Vincent Mitchell
and Peter Scott.
The Kent and East Sussex Branch were represented by Roger
Wade’s black Labrador dog Faybourne Drew of Wadeshot, Sheila
Pomfrett-Wade’s black Labrador dog Luddesdowne Mark, Martin
Bagg’s yellow Labrador bitch Collaroybanks Holly and Diana
Harrison’s yellow Labrador bitch Yettoley Inca of Hatchfield.
The day ran like clockwork under the guidance of Chief Steward
Mrs Sue Searle and all her willing helpers. The tests were
challenging but very realistic, the sort of retrieves found on a
normal picking up or shooting day. Our team made excellent work
of most of the tests finishing at the top of the pile and being
presented with the Halday Cup for the winning team.
Martin Bagg’s little bitch ran extremely well all day and was
presented with The Westernash Trophy for the overall top dog by
Mrs Mary Darton.
The Kent and East Sussex Team with the Judges Our thanks
go to Roger Skinner Pet Foods for their continued
generosity in sponsoring these events with dog food vouchers and
also to the HBB branch for organising a wonderful day. Roger
