14 Dog Novice Stake for AV Retrievers
at The Firle Shoot, near Lewes, East Sussex
by kind permission of Michael Rees and John Coldman Esqs
Guns organised by Brock Van Den Bogaerde Esq

Friday 8th October 2010
Judges: Mr John Stubbs (134), Mr Roger Wade (1704),
Mr Chris Marshall (3232) and Mr Martin Bagg (2233)

For their first Trial of the season, the Utility Gundog Society, Surrey
West Sussex and Hants Branch, returned to this spectacularly
beautiful estate on the South Downs. The early morning mist lifted
into a warm dry day. The trial was judged on three drives, the first
giving retrieves on stubble and hedges, then roots and maize and
finally rough grass.

Partridges and pheasants were shot well by the Guns who enjoyed
watching an excellent standard of dog work.

Six dogs sat on the last drive as the Guns and Judges made their
choice.

1st – Helena Sully with Quabrook Keava
Winner of The Theale Challenge Trophy

2nd – Chris Loseby with Warrenby Casanova of Snipehill
Winner of The Hobhearn Challenge Cup
3rd – Mark Polley with Labcrown Kite of Yettolley
CoM – Gwen Butcher with Labcrown Goshawk of Broomwood

CoM – Ron Jeffery with Faircotelabs Moss
Winner of The Selby Memorial Challenge Cup for Guns’ Choice

Sue Cradock, Judges and award winners at Firle

I would like to thank Peter Setterfield and the Keeper David Moore
for giving us a perfect day. Also, thank you to our sponsors, NFU
Mutual, Pulborough Office and Skinners dog food.

14 Dog All-Aged Stake for AV Retrievers
at Castle Goring, near Worthing, West Sussex
by kind invitation of J. Fitzroy Somerset Esq
Thursday 9th December 2010
Judges: Mr Tony Turner (1928), Mrs Barbara Kuen (2579),
Mr Mark Lucas (2491) and Mr Ron Taylor (3058)

Amazingly this was the ninth trial that we have been lucky enough
to hold on this beautiful ground. As always the day ran like
clockwork with keepers Martin and Kieran producing plenty of good
birds over the guns. We are therefore very grateful to Fitzroy and
the Guns for sharing their day with us all.

Four dogs sat in the last drive – one picked a runner in the drive,
one failed to pick a Woodcock, one picked from the wood, and
lastly our winner picked a strong cock runner from the wood. We
had seen some excellent dog work on a very cold day.

1st – Beth Rayner with Hobhearn Comet

2nd – Gwen Butcher with Labcrown Goshawk at Broomwood
3rd – Paul Jennings with Oakvalley Black Sabbath

Judges and award winners at Castle Goring

These dogs have qualified to run in the All-Aged Cup Finals on
17th January 2011 and we wish them lots of luck!

I would like to thank all my helpers who make the day possible, and lastly the Judges for their valuable time, and making my day easy.

Sue Cradock
