Welcome
to the website of the The Utility Gundog Society, founded
in 1923, for the gentry and their employees to compete together on
a friendly basis with any type of gundog. That ethos of ‘friendly’
competition has been maintained through to the current day.
It is intended that this site should provide members with news on
developments within the Society, details of forthcoming events,
results and contact information.
Prospective members can read about the history and activities of
this unique club.
Owing to its geographic spread, UGS is divided into four autonomous
Branches spread throughout the Home Counties and East Anglia –
Eastern Counties (EC),
Herts, Beds and Bucks
(HBB), Kent and
East Sussex (K&ES) and Surrey,
West Sussex and Hampshire
(S,WS&H).
The UGS comprises a General Committee (Parent Body) which is
responsible for dealing with the administration for the entire Society
and hosting Retriever Events – The
All Aged AV Retriever Field Trial Final and The
Working Test Cup Finals; and Spaniel Events –
The
Open ESS Field Trial, The Open Cocker Spaniel Field Trial,
The Novice
AV Spaniel Field Trial, The Novice Cocker Field Trial and
AV Spaniel
Open and Novice Working Tests.
The Branches take it in turns to organise the Two
Day Open
Qualifying Stake and each
year the Branches also organise
approximately 15 Retriever Field Trials in total and a similar number
of Working
Tests. Training events, Classes and Seminars are also
occasionally organised.
Non members can enter any advertised event (with the exception
of the All Aged FT Finals and GWT Area Finals) but members will
get
preference in the draw.
Please note that membership of one Branch does not confer
membership of all Branches and there is a separate Joining Fee for
each Branch.
We hope you enjoy visiting our site and look forward to welcoming
you at one of our events.
