24 Aug 2024 – KES Open Walked Up on FT Lines
The final working test of the season, an Open Walked Up on FT lines, was held on 24th August. The weather was more akin to a field trial in autumn than a summers day in August but thankfully it was forecast so all were prepared.
The test was held at Haxted Farm which offered some challenging ground and was judged by Chris Marshall, Mandy Smith, Marianne Copp and Fay Drewry with Kelvin Nettleingham as Steward of the Beat.
After three rounds the judges declared the test over with the following result:
1st – Bizzy Lucy handled by Colin Coley
2nd – Anningtonbay Ellielicious handled by Mell Brooks
3rd – Klato Jackdaw of Wadeshot handled by Roger Wade
Com – Lovatnoir Raven handled by Jac Mason

Thanks as always go to our wonderful helpers and our Sponsors; Skinners, Gamekeepers Good and Brown Bag Crisps.
That’s all folks for the 2024 test season. Have a good trialling season and see you all again in 2025.
16 June 2024 – KES Southern Interclub Challenge
Gill Sweeting, Sam Butchers, Jes Milton represented UGS Kent & East Sussex in the Southern Interclub team Challenge which was hosted by UGS Surrey, West Sussex and Hampshire and held at the Isenhurst Estate. 16 clubs each entered a team of three dogs and handlers; comprising of a novice dog/novice handler, a novice dog and an open dog. There were 5 tests for each team with the retrieves tailored to the experience of the dog. There was also a joker that could be played on any of the tests which would double the points scored for that test.
1st – Utility Gundog Society. Kent & East Sussex
2nd – South East Gundog Society
3rd – United Retriever Club Southern
4th – Utility Gundog Society Herts, Beds & Bucks.
There was also an award for the highest scoring dog in each category. The award for the highest scoring ND/NH went to Jes Milton and his lovely dog Fletchingly Maree won with a fantastic 97/100.
8 June 2024 – KES Special Puppy, Veteran, ND/NH and Young Handler
We ran 4 tests; Special Puppy, Veteran, ND/NH and also a Young Handler at Haxted Farm by kind permission of Robert David Spratt. We ran the same tests for each of the 4 classes with each one tailored to suit. We had a short mark and replacement in long grass, a hunt up exercise, a mark into the river followed by a blind and walk up using mown strips in long grass.
There were a good range of scores across the board very ably judged by Joy Venturi Rose, Chris Rose, Sam Kirkham and Jac Mason who was dipping her toes into “judging”water.
It was a delight to welcome two young handlers to the competition as they are the future of our sport and they did extremely well.
Once again our thanks go to our wonderful helpers, without whom we cannot put on tests, our sponsors, Skinners, Gamekeepers Goods and brown bag crisps (if you haven’t tried their crisps, you really should!) and our judges.
