02 Aug 2025 – EC Open Sugar Beet Test

The UGS Eastern Counties Branch held our open sugar beet test, the last for the season, on the 2nd August, special thanks to Loose Hall Farms and Peter Rushbrook for allowing to use their land. 

The test was walked up in sugar beet which consisted of different retrieves, marks, blinds, both in front of, and behind the line.

The judges, Roger Ketley and Adam Snare, made a brilliant job offering retrieves and taking their own giving the dogs and handlers plenty of chances in the strong wind. Scent was good.

For the afternoon the judges had a cut, taking 14 dogs forward for a long blind out of the beet and a blind in the maze strip which made a final result.

1st – Jon Dower, Mitfornton Tobin (Lab dog).
2nd – Jon Dower, Invincible Emerald (Lab bitch).
3rd – Leslie Crompton, Hanwoodgold Breeze Golden (GR bitch).
COM – Sharon Dingle, Bellspaddle Mungo (Lab dog)
COM – Tim Briggs, Ruby Runner (Lab bitch) also taking home the Best Marking trophy.

With 33 dogs running the helpers, judges and dog steward kept the day running.

27 July 2025 – EC Novice Sugar Beet Test

We held our novice sugar beet test on the 27th July at Wattisham by kind permission of Loose Hall Farms and Peter Rushbrook.  Our thanks go to Terry Prentice and Doug Laflin for judging the day, to our helpers and sponsors, Skinners and Dog and Field.

07 Jan 2025 – EC 12 Dog Novice Trial

UGS Eastern Counties branch held their last 12 dog novice trail at Ampton by kind permission of Peter Rushbrook. The judges for the day, Allie Hogsberg, Jim Collins, Jackie Smith Karen Hurst.

The trail started in sugar beet, it was a very cold day, raining and strong wind. Alan Hammond done a fantastic job keeping the birds flying for the guns who shot really well and the dogs doing some nice work.

28 Nov 24 – All Age Qualifying Stake

UGS Eastern Counties branch held its All Age Qualifying Stake on 28 November 2024. The first 3 dogs will go forward to the AA Finals.

The day started in sugar beet with high seeded beet the dogs did manage to find the birds the guns shot very well giving the judges John Keegan, Julie Smith, Mick Elsey and Josefine van der Dussen good areas for marking. Then we walk up some turnips.

1st to Adam snare dog Halorros Milkyway of MeareCastle winning Posterngate trophy.
2nd Sara Gadd bitch Haguehall glory winning the Southwood Trophy for the runner up and the Sam Taylor Trophy for the best opposite sex to the winner.
