Open Sugar Beet Working Test on the 4th August 2018 at Loose Hall Farms, Hitcham Ltd. by kind permission of Loose Hall Farms Ltd.

Judges: Tom Lowe, Arthur Cook

We are indebted to Kevin Easey and Loose Hall Farms for stepping up when the original venue’s Sugar Beet hadn’t grown sufficiently because of the lack of rain.

22 dogs ran under judges Tom Lowe and Arthur Cook in reasonable conditions, warm but with a nice breeze and light cloud cover. Ground scent wasn’t brilliant but a good breeze helped the dogs. The morning consisted of long long marks, two in front for the first round, one right off the end of the line for the second round and an extremely long mark, thrown by strong arm Mick Elsey for the last retrieve of the morning. After lunch it had warmed up a bit and the competitors were kept in the shade, going in one at a time under each judge for a blind and a mark (Arthur) and two blinds in stubble (Tom).

A good day had by all, nice atmosphere in the gallery, excellent catering by Sarah Bond assisted by John Bowtell. Thanks to all the helpers, judges and to our sponsors Dog & Field and Skinners, it was particularly nice to have Colin and Jo from Dog & Field with us all day. Special thanks to Peter Fulcher our WT/FT Secretary, so laid back he’s almost horizontal!!
