9th November 2023 – EC – Novice Retriever Stake

UGS Eastern Counties branch held the UGS All Aged Finals trail on the 9 December on the Ampton estate by kind permission of Peter Rushbrook.

We started in a field of mustard with the rain pouring down in our face. The judges, guns and handlers kept up the spirits not letting the weather interfere with marking down. Judges Kevin doughty, Phil Parkins, Richard Beckerleg and Keith Bedford gave the dogs plenty of time after they were sent in the appalling conditions. The guns shooting was spot on, 40 head for a 12 dog stake.

Judges eye wipe 4 dogs leaving 2 dogs. Unfortunately judges awarded a second and a third. 2nd place was Mick Elsey dog Marshepark Tramp, eye wiping 3 dogs earlier. 3rd was Peter Hurst dog Ghostwood Cruiser at Saxthorp.

UGS Eastern Counties branch would like to say thank you to the judges guns helpers and Sarah bond for the fantastic food. Alan Hammond for keeping the flow of game, our sponsors Skinner’s dog food and Dog and field. All the handlers and judges were given a glass marked with the hundred year anniversary of the Utility Gundog Society

24th Oct 2023 – EC – All Aged Stake

Ugs Eastern Counties branch held their all age stake at Ampton by kind permission of Peter Rushbrook.

Judges: Terry Prentice, Mike Jennings, Andy Mutimer, Doug Laflin. Mike and Andy on the right Terry and Doug on the left.

We started in a walking in mustard the guns shot extremely well, with dogs picking birds behind. This made the judges decision a bit easier for putting dogs out. The last partridge was shot falling behind a tree. Dogs were sent failing to pick, judges walking out and picked up the bird, leaving one dog. The judges called the trail over making Mr J & Mrs C M Elsey with Mick Elsey handling Marsepark Tramp the winner for which he was awarded the Posterngate Trophy, a Dog & Field voucher and a Skinner’s voucher.

A big thank you to Lindsay Lampe coming in to dog steward the helpers carrying game.
